THE CHALLENGE

Autoparts Cumbria Limited are a car parts distributor based in Kendal in the Lake District. They supply a huge range of car parts to distributors, garages, and end users throughout the Lake District.

Trevor (MD) and his team have really established the business and over the past few years the company has been growing year on year. Originally occupying a small industrial unit, they have made the space work for them but as the years have passed, they have adapted the space to work for them in the best way it can.  The current warehouse is a mismatch of offices space, trade counter areas and parts storage and was not only becoming too small, it is also outdated and did not represent the company from a brand and aesthetic standpoint. The challenge for Trevor was to find a new location that allowed them to expand with minimal disruption to their very busy business.

THE SOLUTION

Due to a company relocating, the adjoining unit to their current warehouse became available so the company opted to invest and purchase the building. This would allow them to retain the existing warehouse and expand into the new building. The building had been occupied for some time and although it was left as an empty shell, it contained some old breeze-block offices. Trevor googled local companies to help with the design and fit out of their new premises and arranged for Nexus to attend and complete a site survey. It was apparent from the survey that although the building was larger than the original building it still was relatively small considering how much the company was growing. It was apparent from the outset that the building would benefit from a mezzanine floor. Nexus captured the brief, surveyed the building and headed back to the office to design up the new space.

THE RESULTS

The requirements of the new space were a trade counter area (with visitor WC), office space for the staff, two directors’ offices and a server room. The warehouse was to be utilised for parts storage which were to be stored below and above a mezzanine floor. The project also included a knock through between the two industrial units so they could access either space. Nexus completed the entire project that included mezzanine floor, shelving, electrics, partitions, joinery, flooring, air conditioning, ventilation, plumbing and much more..

Autoparts Cumbria now have a modern, fresh facility that not only provides a superb working environment for the staff but also provides a bright and airy trade counter area that is befitting of the company brand.

“Our favourite type of project.. Helping provide hard working companies with new workspaces to allow them to flourish ”
