FITTING OUT DISTRIBUTION CENTRE - ARGOS PROJECT UPDATE
We are currently half way through the distribution centre fit out project for one of the UK’s largest high street retailers, Argos. They required new facilities at their distribution centre in Kettering, so Nexus were called in to design and implement these for them.
The number of employees at the centre has increased over recent years and as a consequence of this, they have outgrown a number of their current facilities. For example, their existing canteen is now too small to cater for the number of employees on a break at any one time. So Argos required a solution within their premises.
Together we identified a large office space within the distribution centre that was ideal to convert into a canteen and servery, providing that much needed space. We have taken down partitioning to create an open plan area and reconfigured the lighting in the room to ensure it’s configured to the canteen tables. We have also ripped up all the carpet tiles and replaced them with vinyl flooring.
We are also creating two brand new kitchen areas to provide the food for their employees. A dumbwaiter system has been installed to service the servery. We’ve installed a state of the art dishwasher system within a small kitchen area on the same floor as the canteen, whilst the main kitchen has been created on the ground floor below.
Argos previously had a large conference centre on the top floor that was too big for their requirements, so we have installed partitions to create two smaller meeting rooms that better suit their needs and uses the space much more effectively.
Their security staff sign in centre needed updating, so we have relocated it to another area within the building and created a whole new room to house it, complete with a new metal detector system. Adjacent to this will be the new staff shop, which along with staff sign in area, required new lighting and air conditioning installed.
We are also sprucing up the toilet facilities throughout the building and in the next eight weeks we will be working on creating a brand new gym and recreational area that will include new lockers for all of Argos’ employees.
There are eight weeks remaining on the project and we’re looking forward to handing over the facilities to Argos and seeing them being put to good use.
